Use tor with znc, and automatically restart tor if exit node is banned from the ircd? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jigoku1337 · 2017-12-04 16:54 Is this possible? I want to setup znc to use tor as a proxy. However, some exit nodes are blacklisted from the ircd, resulting in being banned automatically on connect, which will render the purpose of a bouncer useless. When that happens, i want to get a new exit node, so have to restart tor if that host is banned. Eg; manually restart tor from a shell; function rtor() { sudo kill -HUP $(pidof tor) } How could i run something like this automatically from within znc, to restart tor if that particular exit node is banned? Or even, is there any other bouncer with a plugin/addon/script that can achieve this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- totalsecond · 2017-12-04 17:20 Sounds like a good way to get banned from the network. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- flotwig · 2017-12-04 17:39 Some IRC networks offer a tor hidden service where you won't get banned just for connecting. That being said, if you have modpython, modperl, or modtcl for your znc, you can write a simple module in Python to do what you're trying to do. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CannedDeath · 2017-12-04 19:03 In general, servers that ban Tor use public DNS blacklists to determine what hosts are Tor exit nodes. They almost never have bans for individual Tor nodes entered manually by operators. Some of these blacklists are automatically populated from Tor's directories, some come from proxy scanners on IRC servers, and some come from other automatically or manually submitted reports. So this approach won't work because the servers already know all the Tor nodes. You might get lucky and get a very new exit node, but it will eventually be detected. I would recommend either using a paid VPN or contacting the network's operators about getting access through Tor. But be prepared for them to say no or ask you to register an account. On another note, this might constitute ban evasion, which people on IRC consider an extreme offense. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jigoku1337 · 2017-12-05 01:43 Yes i know what a blacklist is. That's not an issue on the network in question. There is no strict banning of tor nodes, rather several end up on the blacklist in use, probably 1/5 nodes end up being banned on connect. It's just that if your connection on tor drops out and znc reconnects on a new node, it will be stuck in a ban loop if you end up with a blacklisted exit node. How can this be ban evasion? I'm using tor because i have an oppressive government and don't want them logging chat. It's not like i have been glined previously and evading a previous ban. Being banned on connect for open proxy / or blacklisted address doesn't become ban evasion by restarting tor... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- svn · 2017-12-05 11:12 ...until you get a new ip
