Nazi spambots are spamming various IRC servers and linking to a YouTube stream. What do? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- noeatnosleep · 2017-11-26 05:50 What servers? Contact the admins of that server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iownall555 · 2017-11-26 05:50 Have your channel mods ban the user and then report it to the network staff. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lud1120 · 2017-11-26 05:56 Been going on for months, but has really ramped up recently. The bots use random IPs all the time, random VPNs and Tor. When it comes to trolls the best measure is to ignore it, except that it doesn't end. And it's so obnoxious with pinging as many usernames as possible and screaming something about N-word and "white nationalism". We've tried to have registered usernames only, but that hinders the growth of the channels too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- svn · 2017-11-26 10:41 "Nazi spambots" lmao ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GTB3NW · 2017-11-26 12:31 Block tor, move on ---------------------------------------------------------------------- slimethecold · 2017-11-26 21:15 just ban and ignore. they'll keep coming but there's not much you can do unless it's your own network. EDIT: maybe try setting +r, but they often do register their accounts ---------------------------------------------------------------------- coldf2 · 2017-11-26 21:56 What server? I havent noticed any ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rockintheairwaves · 2017-12-11 08:25 If this works like a lot of the spambots we see, generally the bot will connect and then request a list of channels on the server. Then they will start joining channels from that list and sending out their messages. We have cut down on a lot of that by implementing a mandatory delay where a user must be connected to the server for a certain amount of time before they can use the /LIST command. Actually, what's more interesting is our particular software does it in such a way where the user receives a notice regarding the delay that they have to wait for, but all of the numerics that the list command normally would return are actually returned to the user. So if they use the command before the delay is up, they are essentially given an empty channel list along with a notice letting them know that they have to wait a certain amount of time. Spambots just take this as no channels existing on the server and move on. We use InspIRCd which has a module to implement this, and I would wager that other server software does as well. Check the documentation for the particular server software in use and see. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jmerc83 · 2017-12-16 19:34 which ban should they use considering only \*!\*@* will work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-02-09 07:27 [removed]
