It's been almost 20 years. Are there still any good (Dutch) IRC Channels reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Makesyousmile · 2017-08-22 06:19 Hi, Last week i came across some really old IRC logs and out of curiosity I decided to give it another go. In 1999 i used to chat with a big group of friends in a Dutch channel named #Holland on Undernet's Amsterdam server. I even met my girlfriend there. I still remember friends saying i was an absolute geek for meeting people on the internet and visit them in real life ;-). Although most people in this channel knew each other in real life, I really liked the fact IRC was text-based only. You really had to take the time to get to know new people and at the time you considered someone as "friend" you knew much more about them then pretty much any of the 500 "online" friends you have on Facebook right now*. Off course the #Holland channel is dead and populated by bots but i wondered if there are still some active non-specific (general) Dutch chatrooms on IRC these days. In 1999, spending some time installing and configuring a desktop app with a friend around was normal. That's why i expect the use of IRC to be limited to somewhat geeky people like me. But ,[TL;DR] does anyone know of any Dutch non specific (general chat) channels still in use today? *It's a bit subjective :-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comakip · 2017-08-30 22:16 /r/thenetherlands got a channel on freenode: #thenetherlands They also got a discord. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Y4kuzi · 2017-09-11 10:35 If you're still looking for a Dutch IRC server, I just set up irc.provisionweb.org a while back. I recommend connecting through SSL on port 6697. Keep in mind that it's just a new server, so not much activity yet. Feel free to hang around and idle. We speak Dutch and English, no specific topics. Everyone is welcome.
