Change Reverse DNS on ZNC Server reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hade5 · 2017-08-16 00:47 Hey guys. So, I just set up a ZNC server and I can connect to IRC networks fine. My goal is to get my own custom IRC domain. I set an A record to my IP on my owned domain and I'm not sure how to set it in HexChat or ZNC. Does anyone know what to do here? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- yunocchi · 2017-08-16 00:49 Hi, As long as there is an A record pointing to the IP of your BNC server, you should be able to use said record in your client configuration. If you're looking for the reverse DNS entry to be the same (i.e. my.cool.irc.server.com -> 1.2.3.4 -> my.cool.irc.server.com) you'll need to contact your hosting provider to change the PTR for that IP. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hade5 · 2017-08-16 00:51 Thank you very much for the quick reply. I own the server and the domain. How do I change the PTR for my server? Also, how do I use the record in my client configuration? (Sorry if I sound a bit noob-ish, I'm fairly new to IRC). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- yunocchi · 2017-08-16 03:11 You can set a PTR record for your IP addresses usually through your host's control panel. If you don't know how, you can raise a ticket with your host. If it's a residential connection, then usually they won't allow you to change your rDNS without a static IP. As for using your domain name to connect to your BNC, should be as simple as overtyping the IP address with the hostname you gave it.
