[HexChat] How do I automatically execute a command in a specific channel? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WoodpeckerNo1 · 2017-08-13 13:57 I've set HexChat to automatically join a server, and automatically join two channels in that server. But in one of those channels I have to login through a command. How can I make HexChat automatically execute the command in that channel? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- muesli · 2017-08-13 17:10 There seems to be a bit of a misconception of how IRC works. You don't send commands in channels, you can only send a message to a channel. How do you login? I assume it's authenticating with NickServ. In that case: ``` /msg NickServ identify your_password ``` ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WoodpeckerNo1 · 2017-08-13 17:56 Well, this one works a little different from usual. Let's say the bot that handles the login is called Ruben, and the channel the bot is in is called #home. I set HexChat to automatically join #home, and another channel. When I join #home, I want HexChat to automatically execute this command: /msg Ruben LOGIN username password title But, if I can't send commands in channels, is there another way to do this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing · 2017-08-13 18:10 You can use *Ctrl+S > Edit > Connect commands*. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WoodpeckerNo1 · 2017-08-13 18:12 That only executes a command when connecting to the server, not in a channel, afaik. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing · 2017-08-13 18:13 Correct, but that should be sufficient. The only way to hook when you join directly would be with a custom script. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- muesli · 2017-08-13 18:16 What's stopping you from doing it exactly like that? Do you need to post that to `Ruben` as a normal channel message? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WoodpeckerNo1 · 2017-08-13 18:23 Ah, right. It worked, thanks!
