Brand new to IRC, question about hexchat/removing networks reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joo_se_hyuk · 2017-06-26 05:18 Hey y'all, IRC newbie here. So recently I was trying to access a channel on @irchighway.net using hexchat. I was kinda muddling my way around it, and i did eventually connect, but I sorta 'created' a new network on hexchat or something (I hit 'Add' and typed in the channel/server name). I was able to get to irchighway.net and see all the channels there Later on I realized that @irchighway.net was selectable from the default network list, so apparently whatever network i created wasn't necessary, so I removed it. However, i recall it gave me a weird prompt that, when removing my created network, I would delete it and all its servers. I was a little worried that this might delete all of the channels in the actual irchighway.net (as that's what i ended up successfully accessing), but it seems that it didn't do that. In any case, I guess my question is finding out the basics of how the network system works, and how I was able to access my intended destination by creating a new network (I still don't understand how I did it myself!). And also, if I hit 'remove' on one of these default networks that are displayed upon logging in, will it delete all those channels in the network? I don't want to accidentally blow up a ton of group's chats haha. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- irth____ · 2017-06-26 06:00 No it won't, you would need to be an admin and it wouldn't be done this way. It just deletes the addreses of servers that you have stored on your computer ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joo_se_hyuk · 2017-06-27 02:50 Ok cool, that makes sense. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BuzzzieBu · 2022-08-02 23:48 How do i use /clearall -a in Hexchat? Plz Answer
