TheLounge, self-hosted IRC web client, v2.3.0 released reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- scott_gc · 2017-06-10 14:46 Can someone give a TL:DR description of what we should be interested in about 'TheLounge'? What does 'self-hosted' mean? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fnordfjord · 2017-06-23 22:26 A bit late, but: it's basically like https://www.irccloud.com/, but open source and you run it on your own server (i.e. "self-hosted"). So the actual IRC client is running on the server, meaning you're permanently connected to IRC, and you then visit your TheLounge server through a browser and "attach" to your IRC session. It supports multiple users, so it's a nice way to introduce newcomers to IRC. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Giraffestock · 2017-06-23 23:01 If you have any ideas on how to make this more explicit on the website and/or github, feel free to make a PR (would be a huge help) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fnordfjord · 2017-06-24 00:29 I suspect the confusion might've been due to parent only seeing the release notes; I think both https://thelounge.github.io/ and https://github.com/thelounge/lounge are perfectly fine as they are. Assuming you're involved in the development, thanks! I've been running The Lounge since sometime last year as part of my campaign to make IRC great again (recruiting new people), and while I had some initial stability issues it's been rock solid for the past six months or so. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Giraffestock · 2017-07-05 17:31 I'm just an active contributor. Bit of a sidenote, but I recommend hanging out in #thelounge on freenode; stay up to date on upcoming features, etc.
