I want to set up an IRC chat channel for old creepy scifi movies
pre-1960. But what would be a good server and is there a way to tie it
in to a reddit sub? -- Thanks in advance

Snoonet seems to be the official reddit irc network. So I would
suggest that as your network. If your sub already exists, the easiest
to do then is to register a channel of the same name..
example.. /r/scifimovies
would be #Scifimovies
Then you simply advertise it on the sub, on the right hand side, just
as this sub advertises the #reddit irc channel.
