Need help with highlighting reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- schmitzb8 · 2017-04-20 04:13 Hello, I'm using mIRC and I need help with setting up a highlight. I want to be able to highlight any 8 letter string (any mix of numbers and letters, not case sensitive). An example would be 9CA77E96. I'm new to IRC and don't know how to set up scripts. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- comicidiot · 2017-04-20 04:59 This sounds like it'll help you out: https://forum.swiftirc.net/viewtopic.php?t=1250 You can create and check your RegEx here: https://regex101.com An example could be: \s([a-zA-Z0-9][a-zA-Z0-9][a-zA-Z0-9][a-zA-Z0-9][a-zA-Z0-9][a-zA- Z0-9][a-zA-Z0-9][a-zA-Z0-9])\s There's a prettier way and this only works when the 8 character string has a space before and after it. It'll even match with 8 letter words, like "prettier" if there are any normal conversations going on. If the strings you want to be highlighted on will all have capital letters then remove a-z in each of the [a-zA-Z] blocks. Then you'll only match numbers and capital letters in 8 character strings between spaces. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- schmitzb8 · 2017-04-20 05:32 Thank you for the response. I did realize that I need to use regex, but as I said I am new to IRC so I don't know how to actually use it. When I open the highlights option and paste it in the word list like this, it doesn't work: https://puu.sh/vq5SF/9d1d90e6ba.png Normal words and $me works, but I don't know how to actually put a regex expression in here that works. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- comicidiot · 2017-04-20 15:01 Yeah, no problem. I don't have mIRC so I can't try this for myself but according to the SwiftIRC link, this should be the format you put into mIRC: $regex([name], text, regex) But I'm not exactly sure what to put where. I assume the expression replaces "regex" but not sure about text and [name]. I can check it out more in-depth later in the day.
