How to save logs all the time on any IRC server/channel (even while disconnected)? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- igorpopovio · 2017-04-18 12:31 I was wondering how I can save the conversations for a few channels that I frequent so I can see them even if I'm not connected. Is there some kind of free service for this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A-UNDERSCORE-D · 2017-04-18 12:36 You can use a bouncer, like [znc](http://wiki.znc.in/ZNC). This sits inbetween you and the IRC server and you connect to it when you want to connect to IRC, I would not recommend using a free one, as they can see all your passwords and log every channel you're in, but you could set it up on a server if you have one ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Madbrad200 · 2017-04-18 12:38 Most free bouncers I've encountered have been pretty trustworthy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- igorpopovio · 2017-04-18 13:33 could you please recommend me one? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- astroMD · 2017-04-18 13:46 What issues have you had with znc? I use it daily with Textual on my mac and I've never had a problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Madbrad200 · 2017-04-18 15:46 [EliteBNC](https://www.elitebnc.org), [LunarBNC](https://lunarbnc.net) and [PanicBNC](https://www.panicbnc.net) have worked well for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Madbrad200 · 2017-04-18 15:47 Not everyone can or is willing to set that up. It's not exactly user friendly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- igorpopovio · 2017-04-18 16:29 Thank you for the recommendations :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kill_box · 2017-04-18 18:34 Well, it does have a web config interface now and there are several tutorials online to set it up. Mine runs on a 128M vps for $13/year and took about 1-2 hours to setup the first time. I'd say it's a very small price/task for not sharing your password. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- igorpopovio · 2017-04-21 13:05 Could you please recommend me a VPS? I'm interested in that price... seems ok for a year. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kill_box · 2017-04-22 17:04 Mines through ramnode, seems like they don't have any promos going on right now, so it's $15/year. I have the 128M server: https://www.ramnode.com/vps.php Here's the tutorial I used to setup ZNC: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-znc- an-irc-bouncer-on-an-ubuntu-vps If you have any questions, let me know, and I'll do my best to answer them quickly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Truthfull · 2017-04-23 04:09 The other option is to set it up on a Raspberry Pi, costs more to start with but no ongoing costs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- igorpopovio · 2017-04-23 13:17 thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- igorpopovio · 2017-04-23 13:18 thanks
