discordIRCd: Connecting to discord with your irc client. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- creesch · 2017-03-18 15:41 So since it turns out Discord is getting rather popular and I am apparantly [this guy](https://xkcd.com/1782/) (I really have it set up the way I want!) I set out to still be able to use Discord but also still irc without having to juggling two clients. The result so far is **[discordIRCd](https://github.com/creesch/discordIRCd)** which is basically connect to Discord on one end and pretends to be an IRC server on the other end. I figured there are probably a few more stubborn people out there so that is why I am sharing it here. ## DISCLAIMER This is far from complete and only has the most basic IRC functionality in it to make it work with IRCCloud. It also has been tested somewhat with Hexchat. Since this was the first time for me programming something chat related I also fully expect there to be people that go *"Why did even think doing it like that is a good idea!"*. But hey, it works ;) ### Features - Users joining/leaving channels and servers. - Away for idle and dnd discord users. - Mentions are translated both ways. - Basic discord markdown is parsed to irc formatting. ### TODO: - Better authentication. - Ton more discord compatibility. - Channel topics don't always show up in IRCCloud. - Joining the same discord server with multiple clients causes some unexpected shared behavior. ### Missing: - Voice chat, obviously. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- al_59 · 2017-04-28 17:32 Seems like a nice project. Is it under active development or just a side thing to dick around with different com protocols? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- creesch · 2017-04-28 19:35 What would the difference between the two be? I actively use it myself, so anything I encounter will need fixing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- al_59 · 2017-04-29 02:15 I was referring to whether you actively work on it or only if someone reports/suggests something, but you just answered that question. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- creesch · 2017-04-29 22:21 I am still fairly unsure what the difference would be between the two in this case. But okay...
