Xchat - separate window for mentions

I don't think I've missed any setting, but is there a way to put
mentions in a separate window? Having to scroll through the channel to
find the mention gets tough in a busy channel, if you've been away.

I may have totally missed the switch to turn this on, but I can't find
it.

I personally use [Hexchat](https://hexchat.github.io/), which to my
knowledge is a pretty close copy of Xchat to the point that most
things are cross compatible.

I was looking for this option at some point and could not find it, [so
I learned python and wrote a script for
it](https://thepasteb.in/p/76hxcN9gM9nkOsj) It forwards all pings
(including actions) to a per server fake PM called >>pings<<, it does
this for incoming notices and wallops, with separate channels for
each. The copied ping also contains the channel the ping occurred in,
in the format \#channel/nick there are some specific colour things
hardcoded. I cant guarantee that it will work with Xchat, but it will
work with hexchat out of the box so long as python is installed with
it (its an option in the installer, or if you build it, its a config
option)

Hi! This sounds just like what I'm looking for and more! I'll have a
look.

Probably better to check out HexChat anyway, sine it's very current
compared to a Xchat and not much different.

Hi - thanks.. How do I load these? Sorry, I've never installed these
script types.

I'm getting the following error. I do have python installed on the
computer.

     Unknown file type C:\my\file\pathhighlight.py. Maybe you need to
install the Perl or Python plugin?
     Usage: LOAD [-e] <file>, loads a plugin or script

Well if you use the script I linked, which is Lua, it should load out
of the box. If you use another Python script you must re-run hexchat's
installer and select Python, let that install, then you might require
rebooting.

Well, I thought it was working because the .py script loaded fine, but
not the .lua script.

    Lua version 1.3/5.1 loaded.
     Lua syntax error:
...mypath\AppData\Roaming\HexChat\addons\highlight.lua:1: unexpected
symbol near '<'

Hit the *Raw* button to download scripts. You are loading HTML.
