anyone know how to get Chat connected to an IRC server?

I am trying to connect to an irc server that some friends told me
about, I wanted to go there to chat with them. But when I follow the
guidelines in trying to set the Xchat up on Mac its telling me there
is a problem with the hand shake

Make sure you are using the correct options. It might be possible they
are using SSL, so try enabling that.

If they use ssl, you may need software with a newer ssl library than
what xchat on mac has. Ssl had some big changes in the last couple
years that made old clients break if you want new clients to be
secure.

yeah thats what someone said in the chat. They said that the ssl for
XChat was out dated. Any other options? I see that they have a few
options on the Mac App Store. I tried lime chat, but it was a no go.
There is also a paid IRC client, but not sure if this will work
either.

you have to use homebrew

IIRC homebrew was pretty easy to install last time I tried, hexchat is
definitely worth a little bit of effort setting it up.

well guys, Ive found the answer to all my problems and some. Go with
the (Textual) app for Mac. Does everything and more. Not to mentions
you have themes and limitless options you can choose from.
