when i disconnect from my channel my op goes away? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- przhevalskoye · 2016-12-19 11:39 wot do i do halp pls ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xerox123official · 2016-12-19 13:47 What network? We can help you once you help us :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nicd · 2016-12-19 15:20 When you leave a channel, you lose your operator status. You won't get it back unless everyone else leaves and you join back as the first one (or some op gives you op status). Many networks have services to give you op automatically to help you keep control of the channel. But that all depends on the network. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- przhevalskoye · 2016-12-19 16:24 Freenode ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- anowlcalledjosh · 2016-12-19 16:39 I *think* Freenode has ChanServ, try "/msg ChanServ help"? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- przhevalskoye · 2016-12-19 16:41 it does have chanserv, but everytime i login to my channel, i need to type /msg chanserv op #channelname, and i get sick of it hehe [EDIT] I'm using AdiIRC, if you wanna know. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xerox123official · 2016-12-19 16:47 Doesn't freenode have a chanserv flag for AUTOOP? #freenode is a great place to ask. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AltReality · 2016-12-19 16:48 Some networks will let you invite chanserv to your channel as an op, and then when you join it will op you...but other than that, you are stuck doing it every time. You could set up a triggered action (remote?) so that when you join the channel you automatically send the message to chanserv. - If chanserv can op you just with a command then you probably don't need to have it join your channel specifically anyway. edit: http://lug.oregonstate.edu/blog/channel-admin/ - Mode +O the channel apparantly ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cronyx · 2016-12-19 16:59 What you have to understand is, IRC is about 30 years old, and because of that, a lot of assumptions you take for granted in modern software simply didn't exist back then. It was a different era. IRC could *almost* be considered a protocol, more than an application, very much like FTP or HTTP. There's no back end cloud based services associated with it. There's also no permanence. IRC channels exist only until the last person leaves. Where would the permanency be managed for an IRC channel's settings? Historically, that was your own organic memory storage. Your brain. And then you'd sync the channel's settings to those saved in your brain every time you re-initialize the channel. But those are user actions, not server actions. However they can be simulated by a bot connecting *as* a user would. Initially, that's what Chanserv was. An extremely early example, was "K9" from the IRC network "chatnet.net". You'd invite this userbot to your channel, and it was programmed to accept any invites. Then you would give it OPs (Operator status, indicated with an @ symbol in front of their name), and then it could perform scripted actions with command authority, such as automatically using it's OPs to grant other users OPs if those users knew a password. But none of these settings were saved in the channel itself because the channel is just an abstract concept. The settings were saved in a file on the computer running the K9 bot, and those settings took the form of instructions to perform upon the occurance certian events. You could set up a similar scripted event, such as msging K9 your password and the command to OP you every time you connect. However, what if one day, K9 had crashed, disconnected, and someone else connected with the nick "K9"? You'd have just told that person your password. So there's pros and cons with automation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- przhevalskoye · 2016-12-19 17:07 Damn, i really didn't think of that.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- przhevalskoye · 2016-12-19 17:07 Ill look into that, thanks ! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- notoriousOIT · 2016-12-19 21:37 You need to set the +O flag on yourself. Please recognize the difference between +o and +O Permissions: +v - Enables use of the voice/devoice commands. +V - Enables automatic voice. +o - Enables use of the op/deop commands. +O - Enables automatic op. +s - Enables use of the set command. +i - Enables use of the invite and getkey commands. +r - Enables use of the unban command. +R - Enables use of the recover, sync and clear commands. +f - Enables modification of channel access lists. +t - Enables use of the topic and topicappend commands. +A - Enables viewing of channel access lists. +S - Marks the user as a successor. +F - Grants full founder access. +b - Enables automatic kickban. +e - Exempts from +b and enables unbanning self. EDIT: adding context ---------------------------------------------------------------------- XavierNite · 2016-12-20 14:13 Make sure you register your nick, and register your channel. Once that is done chanserv will automatically op you. If it does not automatically op you try `/msg ChanServ op #yourchannel yournick` ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IlluminatiEnrollment · 2016-12-21 12:17 > IRC could *almost* be considered a protocol, more than an application But it is a protocol, as defined in the RFC. How would you classify it as an application? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cronyx · 2016-12-21 12:51 I'm talking about the original IRC server package and client that was released on usenet in like 1994 or there abouts, as a more robust answer to *talk* and *ytalk*. There were no other clients or servers then. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MaboSwansong · 2023-09-22 16:55 Hi Nicd I need a script that grant me the op when no one is op and when last user exit. Like a part / join but autatically when last user except me disconnect. Is it be possible ? Network used: ircnet Thanks in advance :)
