is it better to use sasl or not bother with it reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lostfile1 · 2016-11-24 02:39 i've been using the plain old /msg nickserv to log in on freenode for a wile but then i start thinking to is it better to use ssl and should i worry about my password being stolen and how easy is it to steal some ones nickserv pass ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rdv_ · 2016-11-24 02:43 In the end, how you identify is up to you and why YOU want to do it. but all that really matters is having a secure connection. so SASL + SSL connectivity is where it's at security wise. Another benefit to SASL is if your IP range gets banned (what we do on Snoonet if a certain provider is being used to ban evade), and if it doesn't affect another person, but has the option to, we can set GA- Lines which requires the use of SASL for regular users. Just think about how security focused you are, realize it's IRC, and go from there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lostfile1 · 2016-11-24 03:30 i think i should use sasl that case ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Saber_UK · 2016-11-24 11:34 Yes, you should use both a secure connection (SSL) and SASL. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- XavierNite · 2016-11-26 07:04 External cert authentication is the way to go when it comes to sasl. It's much more secure than password authentication
