mIRC Perform on connect stopped working on a single server... reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AltReality · 2016-10-19 15:48 So I've been using a small perform on connect script (in the options dialog, not the remotes section) that identifies my nick, and joins some channels. This has been working for literally years, then suddenly it stopped working a couple of days ago. I tried to put an ECHO TEST! statement at the top of the script and I do not see it show up when I connect. It simply seems like it's not running at all. I've restarted mIRC, I've restarted the computer..I've unchecked the 'enable perform on connect' checkbox, clicked OK, then went in and re- checked it...It works for other servers. As far as I am aware, nothing on the server side has changed. (I'm an oper so I would have been notified of any significant changes). I'm able to run all the commands manually...so I know I'm not getting any unseen errors or anything..Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kellyzdude · 2016-10-19 18:45 From memory, the on CONNECT function relies on the "End of MOTD" response coming from the server. Are you getting that back via your connection? Edit: Further, IIRC, that line should have a specific raw code. mIRC may be expecting it to come in with that code, so if it isn't coming back or is coming back with the wrong number (No MOTD File Found *might* prevent it running?) it could also be a cause. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NeedAGoodUsername · 2016-10-19 19:45 Can you pastebin your code and the server you're trying to connect to? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AltReality · 2016-10-19 19:54 It's just setting my nick, identifying with nickserv, opering up, and joining channels... I'd rather not post the server because I don't want to invite hack attempts on my o:line. - I'll DM it to ya. nick AltReality msg nickserv identify oper join #channel1,#channel2,#channel3,#channel4 It seems like it's simply not triggering all of a sudden. Like it's not detecting that I'm connecting to that network. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AltReality · 2016-10-19 20:13 There's definitely a MOTD, and there's a line in the log that says [20:10] End of Message of the Day...I'm betting that is the client interpereting the RAW code for the MOTD end. Good suggestions though. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kellyzdude · 2016-10-19 23:49 If you launch a debug window, you should be able to see the raw codes for the End of MOTD message when you connect. It should start with "375" (RPL_MOTDSTART), several lines of "372" (RPL_MOTD -- the MOTD text), and finish with "376" (RPL_ENDOFMOTD). Alternately, it may send "422" (ERR_NOMOTD). mIRC (and many other clients) rely on either 376 or 422 (not just the text, because that can be localized or otherwise customized) to trigger the CONNECT. I'd also be happy to connect and see if anything stands out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AltReality · 2016-10-20 15:37 Thanks for the info.... It looks like the actual message of the day is handled by infoserv, however there is a 375, 372, 376 block just before that infoserv block, so the motd is definitely there. I think it's gotta be hanging up on detecting which server I'm using. maybe. I don't know. The server name is correct in the servers list. Could it have anything to do with identd? I notice that is timing out for some reason...I've never needed to forward a port for identd or anything before...I can't remember if it's been timing out like that for long or not. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- babylaidk · 2017-01-17 17:28 I see same here - definitely something to do with not recognizing own groups correctly. Luckily I only use one server at the moment, so I pasted my commands to the "Other" setting in Perform. But certainly not ideal.
