As I read through the IRCv3 Specifications, I don't see anything
listing playback capabilities for clients, similar to using a ZNC. Any
chance I just missed it?

I like how they mention Slack as an alternative to IRC but it's
literally just IRC.

Not in the eyes of the people who use Slack. They all seem to think of
it as something else.

I do agree with you, though; Slack is a pretty IRC client IMHO.

Theres a specification for batching chat history which can be used by
ZNC et al to specify that a set of PRIVMSG/NOTICEs are playback but
nothing for specifically requesting it yet. I'm working on it but its
blocked on something else.
