Strange issue with Weechat client

I use weechat as my primary client. I am trying to use commands with a
bot that takes ! as the prefix. In weechat only, they are not
detected. Any obvious reasons why that may be? I used Hexchat to
analyze the raw logs of the convo and it looks identical to messages
sent by Hexchat itself.

Does the bot send command replies to the channel or via PM? I've
noticed on WeeChat that some bots I interact with will end up with
output in my server or notification buffers instead of the channel or
DCC window that I would expect to see them in.

So it's a command for a relay service to allow chatting inside a game.
So I do !s hello and in game I can see that. The bot also captures in
game text and display it in the channel. Any other IRC client sees my
!s fine. Raw log shows it fine. The bot doesn't capture it though. My
best guess is differentiation in whitespace characters


Edit: to clarify it ignores DCC. Only uses messages sent in the
channel.
