Can RSS feeds be sent to IRC? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iPhunwa · 2016-09-10 14:10 Hello, I am sorry if this has been requested before. I am new to IRC and not sure if such a script or bot exists which can announce RSS feeds directly to an IRC channel? I did search on Github, but I wasn't able to understand on how to get them to work. Can someone please link me to a tutorial or guide me through the process? Thank you :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shacknetisp · 2016-09-10 18:44 This looks like a decent bot in Ruby: https://github.com/bhaak/cinchfeed2ircbot You'd install dependencies with `bundle install`, copy `config.yaml.example` to `config.yaml`, edit it, then run with `rake`. Another simple bot I found here: http://hub.darcs.net/simon/rss2irc It's instructions look pretty easy, you just run it with one command specifying the feed and IRC server/channel. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rubinlinux · 2016-09-11 03:34 There is a plugin to do this in supybot and it's more up to date forks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iPhunwa · 2016-09-11 06:02 Hey, thanks for your reply. I managed to install Supybot using this tutorial https://altinukshini.wordpress.com/2011/09/10/how-to-install-supybot/ I ran the wizard and I got the bot up and running but I am unsure on how to get it to send RSS feeds to the channel.. in the setup wizard it never asked me to enter any feed links? Sorry, but I am new to Ubuntu. Only ever used Windows before. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iPhunwa · 2016-09-11 06:07 Hey, thanks for your reply. I'm unsure of Ruby, so I thought I'll give the second one a try. I have downloaded the tar file. Now I extract it and run the rss2irc command? Sorry, but I am new to Ubuntu. Only ever used Windows before. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shacknetisp · 2016-09-11 12:46 Install these dependencies: `sudo apt install build-essential cabal-install libghc-utf8-string- dev` `sudo apt install libghc-text-dev libghc-stm-dev libghc-split-dev libghc-safe-dev libghc-regexpr-dev libghc-parsec3-dev` `sudo apt install libghc-old-locale-dev libghc-network-uri-dev libghc- network-dev libghc-io-storage-dev` `sudo apt install libghc-http-types-dev libghc-resourcet-dev libghc- http-conduit-dev libghc-feed-dev` `sudo apt install libghc-irc-dev libghc-cmdargs-dev libghc- safesemaphore-dev` Open a terminal in the extracted directory and run: `make` then `./dist/build/rss2irc/rss2irc http://hackage.haskell.org/packages/archive/recent.rss irc.freenode.net/mychannel/mybot` Replace the feed and IRC server/channel with your own. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MuffinMedic · 2016-09-12 01:07 [wookie](https://github.com/mrsmn/wookie) IRC RSS bot
