Disable /name when joining a channel. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Er-c · 2016-08-20 20:12 I use irssi, and I am curious if there is a way to prevent listing all users on my screen when I join a channel. I'm somewhat new to IRC and also very new to irssi client itself. Short of that, perhaps there is a command similar to `clear` like what I use in bash. lol - whoops it's just that, I was using the wrong slash `/clear` worked for me. Still curious if I can get the users not be shown on join. Thank you in advance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ThatOneRoadie · 2016-08-20 20:16 Set show_names_on_join = OFF Under [lookandfeel] in your settings. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Er-c · 2016-08-20 20:19 Oh awesome, thank you so much!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Er-c · 2016-08-20 20:34 Any reason typing this appears not to take effect. The output appears to remain to ON, regardless of me trying OFF or TOGGLE. Even ON and then OFF again. Always stays stuck on ON. `/SET show_names_on_join = OFF` is how I run it. I tried it with a few other settings to make sure it's not specific to this one setting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- weylinthedirty · 2016-08-20 20:39 Remove the = sign. /set show_names_on_join off ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Er-c · 2016-08-20 20:42 Wow, silly me. Thank you so much. This advice will enable me to make all the tweaks I've been trying to do. Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello71 · 2016-08-21 00:13 **don't edit the config file** ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello71 · 2016-08-21 00:13 /help set ---------------------------------------------------------------------- j4jackj · 2016-08-26 05:03 Just some background, The NAMES list is sent by the server on join per the IRC protocol. Reception is mandatory but display is optional (hence why bots whose client framework complies with the RFC are also RFC1459 compliant, because the RFC sets no required display standards)
