What's the best IRC software ? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ouraios · 2016-08-12 19:30 Hi, I'd like to know for you all what's the best software for IRC today with a modern UI ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dYz · 2016-08-12 20:04 That might depend upon personal preferences, but saying which operation system you use will help for people giving suggestions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ouraios · 2016-08-12 20:23 I'm using Win 10 :) Actually i'm using mIRC but their UI is really old :/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MuffinMedic · 2016-08-12 20:23 [Textual](https://textualapp.com) for OS X and [HexChat](https://hexchat.github.io) for Windows/Linux. **Edit:** If you want something like /u/Disconsented mentioned that acts as a bouncer (multiple clients, single connection, etc...), use [ZNC](http://wiki.znc.in/ZNC). It works with any client. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Disconsented · 2016-08-12 21:49 [Quassel](http://quassel-irc.org/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ouraios · 2016-08-12 22:01 Why Quassel rather than Hexchat ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Disconsented · 2016-08-12 22:06 [Because there is nothing else like it](http://bugs.quassel- irc.org/attachments/download/111/distributed.png) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ouraios · 2016-08-12 22:23 What is it useful for ? I didnt really understand :s ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kihashi · 2016-08-13 00:37 I run an instance of The Lounge on my VPS. I really like the UI, but I also don't have many feature requirements. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xyerohour · 2016-08-13 01:45 You can log in from multiple devices if I'm reading that correctly ---------------------------------------------------------------------- seb646 · 2016-08-13 03:45 http://irccloud.com. it isn't software, exactly, but if you're looking for something modern and cross-platform, this is it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dcorbe · 2016-08-13 05:52 erc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xerox123official · 2016-08-13 08:35 Apart from the fact that Hexchat is very RAM consuming on Windows for some reason :/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ISOmorphismus · 2016-08-13 10:30 [Definitely, I can barely open it 1000 times](https://i.imgur.com/O78EnHs.png) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ejmarkow · 2016-08-13 12:41 If you're using Google Chrome as your web browser, try [CIRC](https:// chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/circ/bebigdkelppomhhjaaianniiifjbgoc n). It's quite good, very convenient, and your settings, including channels and server passwords are retained. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DavidQT69 · 2016-08-13 14:27 What about for iPhone? What is the best IRC app? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xerox123official · 2016-08-13 17:27 [Probably just me then](http://i.imgur.com/rzlCeog.png) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NeuroG · 2016-08-13 17:35 Weechat + [Glowing -bear](https://github.com/glowing-bear/glowing- bear). Weechat runs on a always-on machine (or vps), and you connect with either SSH or Glowing-bear, depending on whether you want a terminal, or a sleek web-gui/mobile app. No need for a bouncer, and Weechat has tons of plugins for all sorts of tricks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NeuroG · 2016-08-13 17:38 More work to set up, but Weechat+relay client (i.e., glowing-bear) gives you the same sort of setup, with the added ability to just SSH in and use it directly in the terminal. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NeuroG · 2016-08-13 17:41 The core runs somewhere 24/7, so you stay logged in and get backlogs of all your favorite channels. You can connect with any of your devices to chat and pick up where you left off. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cusco · 2016-08-13 18:31 IRSSI FTW ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fill3r · 2016-08-13 18:57 ZNC + Limechat or Textual for GUIs. ZNC + weechat or irssi for CLIs. Throwback to BitchX from back in the day! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2016-08-13 19:01 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Disconsented · 2016-08-13 22:55 Its not more work... You install it and you're basiclly done ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Disconsented · 2016-08-13 22:56 ZNC doesnt work anywhere as well as Quassel with its clients (IOS, Droid, Web, Irissi, Windows, OSX) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MuffinMedic · 2016-08-13 23:18 ZNC works very well with almost all clients and is highly customizable - It essentially just reimplements the IRC protocol, so clients can't differentiate ZNC from a regular IRC server. It does have extended CAPS that can be supported client-side (via a fantastic module system), but they do not effect unsupported clients. I've used HexChat, Textual, Mutter, Palaver, and even some web clients with ZNC and have never had any issues. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2016-08-15 04:15 [AdiIRC](https://www.adiirc.com/) is by far the best ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ouraios · 2016-08-15 14:42 The UI looks old like mIRC :/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ouraios · 2016-08-15 14:45 Well i've just install Quassel Client on my laptop and Quassel Core on my RaspberryPi and its working very well ! Thanks to this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THj8bDN2tJo its pretty easy to setup Quassel Core and connect it thourgh Quassel Client I was wondering if its possible that Quassel Core can automatically rename your nickname when youre closing Quassel Client for "Ouraios|Afk" or something like that ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2016-08-17 04:43 There are themes for it. You can make it look like whatever you want. Also, performance, start-up speed and configuration options are way better ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ouraios · 2016-08-19 15:36 but mIRC dont have the equivalent of Quassel Core ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- weab00 · 2016-08-27 08:12 I know many people don't like it, but I personally use mIRC. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- litstu · 2016-08-28 13:23 Why don't people like mIRC? I've been using it for a while now and I love it! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- weab00 · 2016-08-28 14:36 Probably because of its interface. It isn't the sleekest. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- litstu · 2016-08-28 19:00 Oh fair enough. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cykros · 2016-09-12 06:57 Oh I miss BitchX, but afaik, it still only supports one server at a time. Might not even support SSL connections. Definitely holds some fond memories though. That and ircii, but I might be starting to date myself...
