IRC Client for Privacy reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- VirtualRepulser · 2016-05-02 13:42 With Kiwiirc now showing IP Addresses to servers your connected on, are there any other alternatives that hide your IP Address and host? I take privacy seriously and with my ISP it shows the whole address which is a big privacy concern. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- drwggm · 2016-05-02 13:55 If you're really that worried about it, setup a bnc or use an irc network that will hide the address for you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AltReality · 2016-05-02 14:04 The server is always aware of your IP...that is how it can route traffic to you. The question is whether or not other users on the network are able to see your IP using a /whois. Most networks these days implement IP masking, so your address doesn't show up to other users, only the server itself and any server admins. - The best option if you are truly concerned about some server admin having access to view your IP, would be to bounce through another server. Set up a BNC (as /u/drwggm suggests). Then the address the server would see is the address on the BNC and not your own. Overkill in my opinion, but to each their own. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2016-05-02 20:20 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mihohl · 2016-05-26 14:02 Try [Alwyzon IRC Client](http://www.alwyzon.com/). Alwyzon is quite similar to KiwiIRC. Alwyzon is a web app too. However Alwyzon also acts as a bouncer, so you'll stay connected to the channel even when you close your browser window. This is a very nice feature, because it allows you to read the chat log while you were away. As full IRC username it shows something like `mihohl!uid123@beta.alwyzon.com`. So nobody will see your real ISP or real IP. Use the following invite to sign up to the private beta: https://beta.alwyzon.com/register?referee=1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4goodapp · 2016-07-22 02:46 The offline feature is really great. I've a a question, How to display message's time? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mihohl · 2016-07-22 12:14 On desktop you see the timestamp by hovering the message. On mobile you should see it permanently.
