IRSSI I can connect and join but I can't see conversations reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- perskes · 2016-05-02 12:28 Hey everyone, I'm using irssi and whenever I join a channel I don't see any conversations. I only see this 14:25 -!- Irssi: #linux: Total of 70 nicks [1 ops, 0 halfops, 1 voices, 68 normal] 14:25 -!- Channel #linux created Sat Oct 19 19:41:58 2013 14:25 -!- Irssi: Join to #linux was synced in 1 secs And I can type, but I don't get reactions, so I assume I don't see conversations here? First time IRC by the way, so I'm not experienced.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sneakatdatavibe · 2016-05-02 13:06 nobody tell him. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- perskes · 2016-05-02 13:19 This is so funny. Esc + number to go to a specific window. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- perskes · 2016-05-02 19:38 Hey, thanks for the reply! I use this already and it's great, but I'm already in a channel (like above #linux for example) and can type and send messages. The channel is also populated (73 nicks right now) but I see no one talking and I can't imagine 73 just join a channel to lurk. So I was wondering, how to take part in this conversation.. http://i.imgur.com/XX9gE1Y.png ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheVenetianMask · 2016-05-02 20:59 Sometimes channels may be idle and you'll only see people joining and parting. It's not entirely unusual to have many lurkers, specially in very generic channels -- people often add a channel to their autojoin settings but don't check it that often. Just type "hi" and see if someone replies. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- perskes · 2016-05-02 23:19 Thanks for the reply! I didn't expect this! I thought there's always a topic and stuff going on in the channels. I planned to lurk and learn, but was disappointed when I saw no conversations. Guess I'll go and find a few good conversation starters! Thanks a lot for the helpful explanation! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- svn · 2016-05-03 10:15 That's normal in those kinds of channels full of "elite" morons. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- perskes · 2016-05-03 11:24 what servers and channels would you recommend? I'm looking for technical channels and I tried a few so far, but the same problem in every channel so far. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- svn · 2016-05-03 11:45 If you want to have a technical talk I guess it's better to go to freenode. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- perskes · 2016-05-04 08:04 thanks for this advice!
