HexChat Logs not working in Notepad reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Groundstop · 2016-04-26 18:52 I seem to be having an issue where the HexChat logs are saving in such a way that Notepad displays all messages as being one continuous line. I mentioned it in chat and someone suggested trying a different program. I had VS Code installed on the computer and it seems that the logs are displayed correctly with line breaks in that program, just not in Notepad. Is there any way to change either how the log is written, or how Notepad interprets it so that every message shows on a separate line? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- theeleut · 2016-04-26 19:03 This has to do with how Windows 'sees' a newline. Where Unix-like operating systems usually only need LF or line feed, Windows needs it to be preceded by a CR or carriage return. HexChat logs are probable generated with just Unix-style LF's. You could try Notepad++, which allows you to save to DOS-style TXT files that Notepad can display properly. While you're at it, why not switch to Notepad++ entirely. It's a great tool for working with plain text files on Windows and has nice features like syntax highlighting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tilpner · 2016-04-26 19:05 The issue is... linebreaks. HexChat uses one convention (LF), Notepad another (CRLF). You can either convert from LF to CRLF or use a different editor. Switching editors is probably the easiest thing to do.
