Help with ignore command reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UnrulyRadish · 2016-04-22 02:59 So, I'm pretty new to IRC and I'm trying to figure out if I can ignore another user's messages in a channel but still see their join/part message and also the reverse, see someone's messages but not their join/part notifications. I'm on Hexchat, if that is relevant at all. Thanks for your help! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiXato · 2016-04-22 15:09 Judging by [this support ticket for Hexchat](https://github.com/hexchat/hexchat/issues/500) it doesn't seem to be possible (yet). As /ignore is (usually) a client-side feature, it really depends on the IRC client you use. If you aren't adverse to commandline interface / TUI clients, perhaps give [WeeChat](https://www.weechat.org) a try? Its [/Filter](https://weechat.org/files/doc/stable/weechat_user.en.htm l#command_weechat_filter) plugin/command is quite versatile and would allow what you want and more. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UnrulyRadish · 2016-04-22 20:34 Thank you for your comment. I found that ticket as well when looking around for a solution, but seeing that it's three years old I thought it might have been implemented by now. I looked at the "/help IGNORE" info in HexChat, but couldn't decipher the abbreviations for the "types" parameter. Maybe you can make something of them? Usage: IGNORE mask - host mask to ignore, eg: *!*@*.aol.com types - types of data to ignore, one or all of: PRIV, CHAN, NOTI, CTCP, DCC, INVI, ALL options - NOSAVE, QUIET I'll definitely take a look at WeeChat. Thanks again! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing · 2016-04-22 22:30 They are fairly common IRC terms, in order: Private Message Channel Message Notice Client to Client Protocol Direct Client to Client Invite All of the above *Window > Ignore List* is slightly more friendly than the shorthand though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing · 2016-04-22 22:32 > ignore another user's messages in a channel but still see their join/part message That is the default behavior for `/ignore nick CHAN` (for all channels). > see someone's messages but not their join/part notifications. You can hide all join/parts easily but to single out a user would require a script. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UnrulyRadish · 2016-04-22 22:36 Thank you. That clears up quite a bit. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiXato · 2016-04-23 00:42 While I don't use HexChat, I imagine it's the following: PRIV => Private Message CHAN => Channel Message NOTI => Notice CTCP => Client To Client Protocol (CTCP PING/VERSION/FINGER/SOUND/etc) DCC => Direct Client to Client (DCC CHAT and file transfer) INVI => Invites ALL => All of the above NoSave probably means it won't be stored in between sessions, and thus lost when you close your HexChat. Quiet probably means you get no notifications when someone tries to contact you, or shows no message when added it.
