Seeking input on server daemon selection and configuration reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- work_it_baby · 2016-04-05 21:40 I've got about 500 machines that occasionally spew a ton of data that I need in (nearly) real-time. I need a server that can handle quite a bit of 'burst' type traffic and not throttle the input/output commands while still being stable (internal business application). I tried ngircd to test a prototype, but it seems to be lacking in configuration and requires a user authenticate as IRC op to remove flood protections. I need some other method -- preferably through removal of protections on persistent channels. Are there any highly scalable/configurable servers that do this easily? Resources of the server are not a limiting factor in the decision, but ease of configuration and bringup may be. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jawshthedark · 2016-04-05 22:22 I know in UnrealIRCd you can set the flood limit on the server manually via config. If this is just a business server you can disable it altogether as you shouldn't have anyone to exploit the flood limit. That's my 2cents and there are better options. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RShotZz · 2016-04-06 01:00 Charybdis is a very scalable server that runs on Linux, Windows (support was just added for that) and more (FreeBSD!). You can check it out [here](https://github.com/charybdis-ircd/charybdis) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- j4jackj · 2016-04-28 06:01 Chary recently died. Or did it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RShotZz · 2016-04-30 03:24 No, it didn't. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- j4jackj · 2016-04-30 04:54 Thought Kaniini cancelled it
