Dumb questions from an android only user.(connecting to a channel and setting up SASL/Nickserv) reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nihad15 · 2016-02-28 21:53 Hey guys I've never used irc , I barely understand the concept but that's not the point. I'm trying to connect to irc channels using an android app called Hermes by the numix project. [App link on playstore](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id= org.numixproject.hermes) The thing is I for a couple or channels opened in the browser. Ex.[#Nexus5](http://irc.netsplit.de/channels/details.php?room=%23Nexus 5&net=freenode) This is the ui and I almost don't understand a thing XD. [Screenshots](http://imgur.com/a/tz8HG) Other thing can I register Nickserv or SASL through a browser or android it self ? Sorry to bother you guys with my dumb questions. Excuse my lack of punctuation and grammar mistakes please. (and especially the horrendously poor punctuation) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IlluminatiEnrollment · 2016-02-29 10:46 Nickserv is a network service, and must be registered and authenticated to through your client once a connection is made. SASL is simply a more secure method of doing this. If channels open in your browser, you may be trying to follow links to a "webchat" of sorts for that channel? Try manually entering those channels in the client with the /join command. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2016-02-29 13:27 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nihad15 · 2016-02-29 13:49 I was able to connect to channels now finally but some (like Linux) will need you to be nickserv registered to be able to speak how can I do that not from the client (I'm using Hermes fro android like I previously said which doesn't have any commands) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IlluminatiEnrollment · 2016-02-29 16:42 You *can* do that from the client, using the network services commands manually. For starters, type "/msg nickserv help register" and "/msg nickserv help identify" (minus quotes, of course). This will show you the basics of registering and authenticating (identifying) with Nickserv. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Johannes_13 · 2016-03-06 14:01 After registering, I suggest using your clients ability to authenticate using SASL (freenode supports SASL). Simply enter your username (the nick at the you had at the time you registered) and the password that you did choose into the form you posted and select SASL.
