Looking for the best method to use IRC on Android, preferably over cloud. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lankanmon · 2016-01-12 21:50 I am currently using IRCCloud but the free version is not enough for my use and upgrading is not in my budget ATM. Any recommendations would be much appreciated... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mindlesstux · 2016-01-13 00:26 If you are ok with rolling your own cloud... Setup ZNC on a linux system (I set mine up on a raspberry pi) Then use normal irc client on normal system to znc. Then there are several free irc clients for android you can use to conenct to the ZNC server as well. IF you like the look of the webgui of irccloud there is... kiwiki (or something like that) that does a web based irc, not sure on its details. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xBytez · 2016-01-13 00:52 I have a quasselcore installed on a cheap VPS (check lowendbox.com) and I use the Quasselclient for my desktop and Quasseldroid for my phone to connect the core. Really enjoying this current setup. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lankanmon · 2016-01-13 01:13 ZNC looks interesting... I'll check it out. How does it effect your Rasp Pi? Mine is currently running a home print server, so if it is not a heavy load, I can put it on that... I am using HexChat on PC at the moment and am happy with the GUI. The only problem is semelessly switching between that and my mobile devices... Can hexchat support ZNC? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- habys · 2016-01-13 12:55 get a weechat client setup the way you like on a server somewhere then use the weechat Android app to connect to that, you always stay online and the interface is pretty good. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NeuroG · 2016-01-13 16:22 This is what I use and really enjoy it. I also have the [irssinotifier](https://irssinotifier.appspot.com/) script installed and app on my phone. Rather than relying on the weechat Android app maintaining a connection 24/7, irssinotifier uses push messages (e2e encrypted) to notify me reliably and instantly. You also have the option of [Glowing Bear](https://latest.glowing-bear.org/) if you want a really sleek GUI once in a while. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NeuroG · 2016-01-13 16:27 A bouncer like ZNC just looks like an IRC server, so any client can connect to it. Hexchat and other also support some extra features that let ZNC provide correct message time stamps and such. So, to answer your question, yes. If you run a Rasp Pi server, though, you might want to consider running a full-featured IRC client on it like Quassel, Weechat, or IRSSI. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pitastrudl · 2016-01-13 21:33 znc, abit of a pain to setup and configure, kindof. havent tried weechat. quassel is quite easy to setup and the android app isnt bad either.
