Give me your Best IRC Persistent Core for raspberry pi reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dreconus · 2015-11-05 17:47 I am looking for persistence. I have become fond of using irssi, though I have been using that locally on windows and not persistently. I have looked up a few different clients, but I want to hear from you the IRC community on your pro's and cons about each Persistent IRC core. that CAN run on the Raspberry Pi. I will be accessing it mostly from my laptop which is running windows (required for work). I will accept suggestions for Client to core like quassell or even SSH based. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2015-11-05 18:49 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- flotwig · 2015-11-05 19:26 You mean like... A bouncer? Znc is the best. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dreconus · 2015-11-05 19:34 surely there is pros and cons to each method and program. What would you say the pros and cons for this one is? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PriceChild · 2015-11-05 21:54 Screen & irssi. (Don't forget to sort out utf8) Anything else can then plug into irssi with irssiproxy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nicd · 2015-11-05 22:59 As an alternative I would suggest tmux (like screen, but more featureful and actively developed) and WeeChat (like irssi, but more featureful and actively developed). WeeChat also has a relay feature (actually two, one for IRC and one for remote GUIs). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- somethingeneric · 2015-11-05 23:24 Has irssiproxy image been improved? It was awful last time I used it? Irssi is amazing though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dreconus · 2015-11-06 07:05 what would you say are the benefits for using Weechat? i heard it can be quite taxing for a raspberry pi. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nicd · 2015-11-06 09:47 As I said, it's more featureful and actively developed. But you would have to try it for yourself to see if it works fine for you. The things I like the most are a working nicklist builtin, a sane window list script, bare mode where copypasting and opening big links is easy and the relay feature which allows me to open remote GUIs that connect to it, like this: http://i.imgur.com/X7c0CpR.png ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PriceChild · 2015-11-06 10:02 Haven't a clue what you mean by 'image'? I've never had a problem with it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- somethingeneric · 2015-11-06 10:43 Welp. Don't know how the word image snuck in there. Stupid phone... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- j4jackj · 2015-11-07 03:35 What the fuck is a "persistent IRC core"? Oh god. How much more evil can the English language get? First, nothing in the world even approaches persistence. We're all going to die eventually. Also god doesn't exist & heaven is presently too crowded. Second, what the fuck is an IRC "core"? Server? Client? Bouncer? <_< ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dreconus · 2015-11-07 05:43 thats actually pretty nice, does the web interface come with the base installation? or does it require a setup. edit: I mean is there a module i will have to install to use the remote gui? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dreconus · 2015-11-07 05:51 Persistent meaning while it is currently on. I guess if you were going to call Life as being in the "on" state. then yes, all things come to an end. as for your religious beliefs in Christianity, you can keep them to yourself and not push them on to me. we have enough young white men in clean black suits on bicycles around here. By core, i am referring to a core installation without the need of plugins, heavy modification nor extra resources to achieve the goal. This does not include the configuration and setup. Though for some added features that would give me some necessary ease of use, i would not mind going the extra mile. And please refrain from being overly pessimistic. You might scare off someone looking for actual help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nicd · 2015-11-07 07:48 The web interface is called [Glowing Bear](https://glowing- bear.github.io/glowing-bear/). You don't need to host it yourself, you can use their hosted version, but you need to set up a 'weechat' type relay in your client, give it a certificate (for securing the connection) and open a port from your firewall (unless you reverse proxy it with for example nginx). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- atblakely · 2016-02-13 20:35 ZNC connects to the IRC server and then you connect to it, it'll hold your nick online for you.
