IRC client for multiple devices? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chrom03 · 2015-09-23 08:09 So I'm often on IRC at home, then I disconnect and to work and I have to log in once more. And while I'm on the bus/train/whatever commuting then I'm on IRC ofc. I'm looking for some IRC client that will let me connect to the same "session" from whatever device I'm on, is there something like that available? Remote connection (ie VNC) is not an option. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chrom03 · 2015-09-23 08:34 I've found Quassel which should be able to do the task, but just keeps crashing after a minutes so not really working out for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Crendgrim · 2015-09-23 08:44 Where did you install Quassel from, and on which platform does it crash? I am running the Windows, Linux and Android clients without issues. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nicd · 2015-09-23 09:50 [WeeChat](http://weechat.org/) has a relay protocol that can be used by clients such as [weechat- android](https://github.com/ubergeek42/weechat-android) (for Android phones) and [Glowing Bear](http://www.glowing-bear.org/) (for web browsers, also has native versions for Android and iOS) (those two are the most feature complete and usable currently). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DEADB33F · 2015-09-23 10:12 I host my own BNC, but you may want to check [these guys out](https://bnc4free.com/?page_id=2) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Joester98 · 2015-09-23 11:09 I can vouch for them. It took some time for them to set the bouncer up for me, but it works perfectly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chrom03 · 2015-09-23 11:11 I installed it from http://quassel-irc.org/downloads, on Windows10 and as soon as I connect it crashes. Haven't tried it on Linux yet as I'd prefer it on my Windows box, but no biggie if I have to run it on linux. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Crendgrim · 2015-09-23 11:32 Hm, it says on that page: > Note: This seems to be broken for many users currently, due to a problem with Qt's encryption support. If you suffer from crashes, you may try this build instead (without encryption). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DStoo · 2015-09-23 12:47 Screen or tmux. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- swollentiki · 2015-09-23 13:28 Sounds like you need an IRC boucer ([BNC](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BNC_\(software\))). I have [ZNC](http://wiki.znc.in/ZNC) installed on a cheap VPS, works great. You set ZNC to connect to the IRC server, and connect your IRC client to your ZNC server. When you logoff on the client, ZNC stays connected to the server. When you reconnect to ZNC, it will play back missed messages. Bought a few IPv4 NAT VPS' through http://lowendspirit.com/locations.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kagxtr · 2015-09-23 13:56 I run weechat on a VPS inside a tmux session. Whereever I am, I just ssh in and attach and I'm right back in weechat. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- owlmanatt · 2015-09-23 18:17 The iOS client is below average. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Viped · 2015-09-23 19:59 Quassel works perfectly for you if you just get it to work (can't help you with that never crashed with me). I have core on my own server and I have clients on android, Windows and manjaro linux.
