Need a few things in ircd.conf better explained/clarified. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] ยท 2015-07-29 11:32 First up, I use Charybdis, I know it's not very popular but I wanted to use atheme-services aswell and was told they work best together. The server itself has been running for 2 months or so but I've always had trouble using "/oper". Note, it's not publicly advertised or anything so doesn't have strangers wandering in or anything, I'm just doing it as a hobby. Anyways, I fixed it once and then must have changed something afterwards because when I rebooted in the last week I haven't been able to oper since. I have two questions (afaik most ircd configs are basically the same so hopefully someone will know) * There's the {auth} block for oper class and a separate {operator} block for the admin privset. If I'm sole operator should I keep these basically the same? What are the differences? I'm guessing the operator block is head IRC/founder or whatever and the oper blocks are for adding extra irc staff? * Whenever I /oper it says "no block for your hostname". I've tried connecting from a ZNC server (located on same host as the irc server) and from my own home connection, changing the host both times and it doesn't seem to recognise either. >user = "irc-server-throwaway@127.0.0.1"; * Am I missing something in this syntax? Secondly, if I'm using a vhost should I use the vhost instead? Thanks in advance for any help.
