Is there a IRC client that Hides IP address reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- billybonjobob · 2015-07-16 22:47 So that people don't know where you are and can't track you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TwiztedZero · 2015-07-16 22:53 Unfortunately, no. You would have to use a bouncer , and or a proxy or some other vpn arrangement. Total obfuscation of your actual real life address is not possible. Some places like [Snoonet.org](https://snoonet.org/help) automatically mask IP's , and sometimes have a bouncer service available on request. Normally channle operators (ops) can't see the IP under the masks, and only the network operators or staff (opers) at snoonet.org can see actual IP's. Users can only view their own on a /whois but other users will only see the host mask and not the IP. Remember, not all IRCd's do this. Some do, some don't. Others may ban VPN's , proxies, common bouncers in lieu of their own services. So exercise your common sense. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- metabrew · 2015-07-16 22:58 irccloud.com (which I work on). web and mobile client. connections come from our servers, so your IP is hidden from other IRC users. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- billybonjobob · 2015-07-16 23:24 I wish there was some kind of Tor IRC Client. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sketchni · 2015-07-17 00:19 set up Tor on your local machine and set your IRC client to use it as a proxy? Besides, most networks either have vHosts or some sort of cloaking built right in to the IRCd. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Barry_Scotts_Cat · 2015-07-17 10:59 Use a bouncer or a proxy The packets have to get to you somehow ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ericdjobs · 2015-07-20 04:45 TOR in itself acts as a proxy allowing you to connect practically anything through TOR if it supports SOCKS proxies. Ahh.. I remember before the TOR browser bundle when you actually had to set all this up manually to use TOR.. haha... But a lot of the IRC servers out there maintain lists of TOR nodes and k-line or g-line them on sight... Best option is to get a free linux VPS from amazon elastic compute, throw a BNC server on there, simply bounce the connection through the BNC... also there's a ton of shell providers that offer limited BNC accounts (BNC is software that is for IRC that "bounces" your connection through the host machine) A cool up-side is most shell providers maintain what you call "vanity hosts" which basically allow you to set your bounced IP at an address that resolves to something like "i.b0rked.your.mom.last.kn1ght.org" and thousands of variations.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ericdjobs · 2015-07-20 04:46 Use TOR as a socks proxy and connect through it... But most IRCd's these days have TOR node lists and ban them on sight... so other than that you can setup BNC on a VPS or go shell out a couple bucks a month for a BNC server (or shell account) with sweet vanity virtual hosts. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DStoo · 2015-07-21 10:42 There are some networks that mask your host. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cripperzprodigy · 2015-07-27 20:23 depends your terms of tracking. You can vpn in using [hola.org vpn](http://blog.cripperz.sg/go/hola) (free peer to peer vpn much like tor but easier to get working) or simply head down to [irccloud.com](http://irccloud.com) and get an id and just join to which ever irc network you are want. They have a free usage which will last 2 hours on idle and forever connected when u are connected to it.
