Twitch Whisper Hexchat reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- S4ntaClaws · 2015-06-26 14:57 Twitch has launched their new irc v3 thing, with it a new feature called "whispers", basically private messages. For some reason however, the only way I can get it to work in my irc client, is by joining a random group chat (also introduced with irc v3), which requires you to join a separate irc server, depending on the group chat. tl;dr - I'm forced to have two irc servers open simultaneously, if I want to get whispers from twitch users, and read the regular chat. -- fyi: I use hexchat I was wondering, if anybody has a slick solution to sort of have the secondary server running in the background, but be able to send commands to that server, through the primary servers cli. And also have specific messages from the secondary server printed in the primary servers cli. Either that ^ or even better, have a completely separate gui for it, instead of using the primary server cli - sort of like a regular pm box. I hope I made myself clear, in spite of my terrible title. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kevelbreh · 2015-08-25 11:54 Check out the difference in the protocol being used between the original IRC RFC and the Twitch chat's V3. It's easy using Mirc. Use: //window -e @raw | debug @raw ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Xangold · 2015-09-04 08:41 IRC v3 is a proposed(?) spec. Whispers are the same technology that the rest of the site uses, you just have to send it to a specific user on a different network. As you surmised you'll need to connect twice, once to regular chat, once to group chat. To send a whisper, send a PRIVMSG jtv :/w whisper text In mirc that would look like messaging a user with "/w hi there"
