IRC client for deaf/Deaf/HOH user? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mindlessroman · 2015-06-01 19:45 Hey folks! My workplace is transitioning to using IRC for some of our chat needs. I'm hard of hearing and the Web client doesn't do a good enough job for signaling for my attention, and we're given pidgin as a standard which isn't as good for my needs (that I've found). Are there any good clients, plug-ins, or configurations that suit the needs of the d/Deaf/HOH? Any help is appreciated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EmDeeEm · 2015-06-01 20:19 Hexchat can flash the Taskbar and/or tray icon based on how you set it up. (Every message, just your nick, etc.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zossle · 2015-06-01 20:33 I'm Deaf myself and use Hexchat on Windows, give it a go. The notifications are quite obvious when setup correctly. I'm usually on Linux running weechat though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PoshBarbaricFlush · 2015-06-01 21:47 There's a [Pidgin plugin to flash your keyboard LEDs](https://code.google.com/p/pidgin-capsnot/) (the ones for scrolllock/numlock/capslock specifically) if this might help. There are a lot of other plugins listed [here](https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/ThirdPartyPlugins), many centered around notifications (though some are Linux only). There may be some others in the [Purple Plugin Pack](https://bitbucket.org/rekkanoryo/purple-plugin-pack/) as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Princess_Pwny · 2015-06-02 02:35 [KVirc](http://www.kvirc.net/) can be a little tedious to get setup to look nice, but it has a ["Notifier"](http://i.imgur.com/qDrbJ4V.png) window that pops up on mention. [You can change the window's font](http://i.imgur.com/42Aw0e4.png), color and the duration the window appears for, from 1 second to forever and the taskbar icon will light up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Irori_no_Yaya · 2015-06-02 11:41 I use HydraIRC and it can flash the taskbar, you can customise notifcations a lot on it and it's very stable. Here's what it looks like if your wondering [[Hydra Notifcations]](http://puu.sh/i9xba/ed44eaa3c9.png) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DefunctKernel · 2015-06-03 13:52 Hydra isn't supported by devs anymore. It was moved to Github 8 months ago and hasn't had any commits since. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Irori_no_Yaya · 2015-06-03 19:47 Yes, it stopped in 2008. It still works just fine, although sadly a lot of functions are still missing. It's just what I prefer purely because I've used it for x amount of time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DefunctKernel · 2015-06-04 18:19 It's generally not recommended to use software that's not supported, it's insecure to say the least but if you're happy enough to use it then cool :)
