New to IRC. How do I tell nickServe to log me in correctly to my old registered account? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thetalentedmrpeanut · 2015-03-15 03:18 So I'm using a commandline irc program called irssi. I recently had to do a complete reset of my system. I just re-installed irssi and I connected to irc.freenode.net and it's grabbing the name of my linux machine for my username. How do I sign into my old user name? Do I have to re-register my old nick? I tried entering identify myoldusername mypassword and NickServe gave a message "you are now identified for myoldusername" but when I go in a room it's still saying the name of my linux machine. And in my status bar it's still saying the name of my linux machine. *Update - so I figured how to do the /nick myoldusername and it switched me to my old user name and prompted me with the message This nickname is registered. Please choose a different nickname or identify via /msg NickServe identify So I did the /msg NickServe identify myoldpassword but then I get a message that says no such nick/channel I know my password and name are correct so I don't know what the problem is but at this point it won't let me sign into my own registered nick that I last used probably about a week ago so I don't think it expired. Any thoughts on how to fix this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuxmascot · 2015-03-15 04:29 It's *nickserv* not nickeserve ---------------------------------------------------------------------- phyreseed · 2015-03-15 16:14 Try /msg nickserv identify (username) (password) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thetalentedmrpeanut · 2015-03-15 17:36 Thanks for catching my mistake. it works now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuxmascot · 2015-03-15 17:38 No problem! :)
