looking for a hexchat plugin reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- carlgo11 · 2015-02-01 00:49 Hello r/irc I'm looking for a hexchat script/plugin that does a hostname lookup on users connecting to a channel. I've googled til the point of almost ddosing google with requests now but I couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance, Carl ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing · 2015-02-01 01:44 It already prints a users hostname on join. What exactly do you want? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- carlgo11 · 2015-02-01 02:16 geoip lookup ---------------------------------------------------------------------- caffeinedrinker · 2015-02-01 03:00 Whois does this unless user&server has hostmasks enabled ---------------------------------------------------------------------- carlgo11 · 2015-02-17 02:41 Yes but seeing this every time someone joins a channel would be really useful. I'm in various support channels and knowing what country the people are from helps a lot in helping them. I don't want to whois everyone. Just simply see a text line telling me their location when they join. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- caffeinedrinker · 2015-02-17 02:45 but what about hostmask / proxies / vpns and tor ... if you have access to all the users ip's it wouldn't be too difficult to write a small python script to do this ... otherwise you might need some kind of irc daemon / server side plugin / script ---------------------------------------------------------------------- carlgo11 · 2015-02-19 01:51 I do have access to their ips/hostnames. I just don't know how to do the hexchat plugin :\ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- caffeinedrinker · 2015-02-19 02:39 you just need something to parse the ips and call some geolocation api or make a http request to a geolocation service and pull back the data you need and display it in hexchat ... http://hexchat.readthedocs.org/en/latest/script_python.html ... this might also help ... http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8199903/irc- client-channel-latitude-and-longitude-details
