xchat IRC notification

I am using xchat on ubuntu 14.10. I am mostly satisfied with it but a
little frustrated that there is no desktop notification feature.. Is
there a better IRC client on ubuntu than xchat? at least in terms of
design and notifications?

xchat itself is a bit dead, might be interested in HexChat, its a fork
of xchat with many bug fixed and new features. While I don't use the
IRC client, a 'desktop notification feature' might exist in one of the
github links.
