I hopped onto EFnet because I read it used to be the biggest, though
I'm having a hard time finding active channels. Are there other
networks I should be on?

I will also take channel recs.

What kinds of things do you enjoy?

[Freenode](http://freenode.net/) is awesome. All kinds of channels. I
tend to participate in math/programming-type channels.

There's also [Snoonet](http://www.snoonet.org/), which has a number of
active channels for various subreddits.

Thanks for the advice. I will check those out.

I got on hoping to find some new music to listen to. I heard it was a
good place to go. Any music IRCs you know of?

Really I have a ton of random hobbies (thus I am on Reddit).

Awesome!

Yeah. There's #music on Freenode. I've hung out a little there. Seems
active. There's also one on Snoonet.

Honestly, it's been my experience with IRC that patience is worth it.
I've asked for a couple music suggestions in #music and got replies
immediately. Sometimes if you ask a question (depending on the
channel), you will get an answer, but it will take a while. Depends on
the channel and the question, etc. But definitely active channels are
great places to meet people.

Snoonet has [stats](https://stats.snoonet.org/channel#activity) as far
as active channels. I'm sure Freenode does, as well.

If you're interested in an idling game (basically, you idle in the
channel and gain progress), come check out #idlebot!

#casualconversation on Snoonet is pretty active, and has cool people
talking.

#chicago on Freenode. We are pretty active, and no, you don't need to
be from Chicago to chat there.

Abjects has some pretty active channels. /list in your irc client is
your friend.

You may be interested in this page: [IRC Networks - Top 10 by
comparison]( http://irc.netsplit.de/networks/top10.php?year=2014).

The site is very useful. You can [search channels for "music," for
example](http://irc.netsplit.de/channels/?chat=music).

please tell me where I can find these mystical “active channels”? I
can't find them. :(
