I would like to run a bot gathering stats for my channel. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2015-01-01 19:34 Is it possible without having my pc running 24/7 / owning a server? Any service I could use to do that (for free)? It's a small channel, ~15 users. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuxmascot · 2015-01-01 19:51 Amazon EC2 instance might work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2015-01-02 03:34 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1unacy · 2015-01-02 03:47 You don't have to own your own server. You can just get a virtual private server from someone like [CoreNetworks](https://corenetworks.net/) for like $7/mo. Personally I'd recommend doing this anyway. Because mIRC sucks **hard**. On *nix, you should have Perl installed anyway, but if not you'll need to get it installed. From there grab [pisg](http://pisg.sourceforge.net/). Edit pisg.cfg to your channel and server specifics (although that's 100% cosmetic, you can have it say wherever you want it to, so long it's looking at the correct logs) and then you can set up crontab to run it however often you want. I have crontab set up on my box as follows... 0 0 * * * /home/lunacy/pisg/pisg I don't know how familiar you are with crontab, but that tells it to run /home/lunacy/pisg/pisg every day at 12:00 AM. Set it to run however often you want. There are instructions in crontab -e. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xkzMAN · 2015-01-02 07:12 There is no such thing as a free lunch. The closest thing to free has already been mentioned like to get a EC2 instance at [Amazon](http://aws.amazon.com/free/). It got a free tier that lasts up to one year. However, if you don't mind a small one time purchase. Then you can buy an Raspberry Pi and send it to Austria. [EDIS has a free Raspberry pi colocation.](http://www.edis.at/en/server/colocation/austria/raspberry pi/) If you somehow are stationed in Sweden then [fsdata is a alternative to edis](https://fsdata.se/server/raspberry-pi-colocation/). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- flotwig · 2015-01-04 01:48 If you're on Snoonet, you can /invite Statistics and /cs set chanstats #channel on to take advantage of the network statistics at https://stats.snoonet.org/ and https://chanstats.snoonet.org/. Some other networks have similar services. If your network is served by http://chanstat.net/ you can use them.
