New with irc. Little help?

I heard about irc so I wanted to chat with some people over it. I
heard hexchat and xchat were good clients, so I had them downloaded.
However, I wanted to create a channel, but I couldn't get a straight
answer on how to on the internet. So how do you create a channel on
hexchat or xchat? What are some things that I should be familiar with
if I'm using irc? Thanks in advance!

just /join #channelname and it creates the channel for you

Join a channel using /join #channelname and then register it with
chanserv (the syntax is like /cs register #channel description
yourpassword)

Command might change depending on what network you're on.

Registering a channel (via a channel service like ChanServ) can vary
depending on the network you use? Do you have a set network that you
want to experiment on? If not, I have some suggestions :P
