Any way to retrieve my configured networks and accounts from X-Chat in Windows? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BeginnerBob 路 2014-12-04 16:21 It wasn't very apparent on the X-Chat webpage that [it isn't free](https://i.imgur.com/G5b4owG.jpg). It's my fault I guess since I didn't look more carefully. I just skimmed the front page of the website, didn't see a pricing or buy section and downloaded it. Now my network and channel list as well as the accounts I used are held up in it. Is there a way to retrieve them without having to buy? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TwiztedZero 路 2014-12-04 17:24 Write down all your channels, and servers ... copy everything you can find from the servers dialog. Then go and download [HexChat](https://hexchat.github.io/) install that in a fresh new folder, and re-input all your login information , servers, and channels and you'll be good to go :) Hexchat is a fork of the original xchat, and is very well maintained - plus you can speak with the maintainers /u/TingPing on Freenode in #hexchat if you have issues. ---- Then come find us. The docs are on the website but its pretty frowned upon to do so. XChat had a lot of terrible default settings and the format for various file have changed a little over the years. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aperson 路 2014-12-04 18:49 Did it it import settings at one point? I swear it did. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing 路 2014-12-04 18:49 The passwords and whatnot should be stored in ~~*_servlist.conf*~~ *servlist_.conf* in ```%APPDATA%\X-Chat 2``` (just copy that into explorer). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing 路 2014-12-04 19:00 Never. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aperson 路 2014-12-04 19:07 Alright, not import then, but howabout just straight up use xchat's config? I know when I initially used hexchat, I didn't have to configure anything. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BeginnerBob 路 2014-12-04 19:13 Hi, I can't see even the servers dialog because the trial dialog box is the only thing visible. When I click [Register Online] it just closes the program and takes me to the buy page. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BeginnerBob 路 2014-12-04 19:15 I wasn't able to see *_servlist.conf* but what I **did** see is *servlist_.conf*. I can see that my channels, servers, and account name are all there. However, I can't seem to find the passwords for those accounts. Are they stored elsewhere? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing 路 2014-12-04 19:33 Oh oops. That is the only place passwords should be stored. I know nothing about proprietary xchat though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing 路 2014-12-04 19:36 I am not certain but I think by the time it re-branded it moved config folders.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TwiztedZero 路 2014-12-04 21:44 Follow these instructions to migrate your settings from xchat to hexchat... [INSTRUCTIONS](http://hexchat.readthedocs.org/en/latest/faq.html) I hope this helps you :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zombieking115 路 2014-12-05 00:10 What rules did I break?
