Altering /mode settings on a private server. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Totentag · 2014-11-07 08:03 A private(ish) server I tend to spend a lot of time in has recently come under a lot more traffic because it's appeared on some Google searches, to hear the boss tell it. The server is dedicated to a very sexual subject, and as such a lot of the new users come in thinking it's there specifically so they can get their rocks off via webcam, cyber-sex, or things of that nature. This leads to other users (typically those with feminine nicks) getting spammed somewhat heavily with unwanted PMs. As yet the general suggestion has been "Either /mode +r or /ignore them." However, the server's webchat is much more popular than using it in- client, and as such a lot of the users simply don't have the technical know-how necessary to register their nicks. After spending some time around, they might, but until then they'd be prevented from engaging +r'd users in PM just as much as those seeking cyber-sex. To me, this is a major problem. So, my question, finally, is if it's possible to alter the way modes work on the server-side of things by allowing users to effectively "whitelist" non-registered (or registered) nicks to PM them? My first thought was an addition to the +r functionality to allow an "add" and "remove" commandset, but if this isn't plausible, I feel like a new, simple mode would be doable, a la +W with a simple commandset regarding whitelisting. tl;dr: newb chatters want tits. Old chatters want good PMs. Is there a middle ground we can reach? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- boo_ood · 2014-11-07 09:19 Before anything else, you need to mention which IRC daemon the network is running, different daemons have very different features ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Totentag · 2014-11-07 09:23 It would appear I have fairly bad timing. This isn't the sort of thing I'm privvy to by default, and the four owners who would know all seem to be gone at the moment. Looks like this discussion might have to wait until the morning in the US. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- boo_ood · 2014-11-07 09:26 Running the /version command should give you an idea. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Totentag · 2014-11-07 09:44 Whelp, actually managed to hunt it down via Google-Fu before I realized I had this response. Would have made things a bit easier, I admit. So what I'm getting as Daemon is "Unreal3.2.10.4" I'm going to assume this is the correct answer? Christ, I hope so. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- boo_ood · 2014-11-07 10:19 That's the one. I don't know too much about Unreal though :( You'll probably need a custom module
