Setting up IRC with WebClient reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- supersyaX 路 2014-10-31 22:01 Hey guys, A few months ago I decided to go for a vServer. Currently I'm just running teamspeak and a few webpages. I'd like to set up my own IRC Server, running on my vServer, which can be accessed through a client (like mIRC) as well as through a webClient (over my website! A little button with some kind of webchat). My problem is I got absolutely 0 knowledge about IRC Servers. I've just used it on several streaming providers (like twitch or azubu) as well as on a few other websites. I'd be really happy if someone could provide me one or multiply tutorials. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tacticalbread 路 2014-11-01 21:20 Setting up an IRC server is pretty simple, if you're familiar with compiling software. The configuration is the most difficult part, and most IRCds that I've tried have pretty well documented config files. As for a webclient, [KiwiIRC](https://kiwiirc.com/) is pretty nice, and pretty easy to [setup](https://kiwiirc.com/docs/installing) as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joshuacasey 路 2014-11-04 20:04 Kiwiirc is probably the easiest webchat to setup because you don't even need to install anything. Register an account. Add your network and setup the webirc configuration. Then create a webchat client link. You don't have to host it yourself :) (I'm not going to mention mibbit because 1. I don't trust mibbit. 2. Mibbit's UI sucks) -Joshua**[IRC馃挰](irc://irc.dftchat.com/#DFTChat "Don't Forget To Chat!")** ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tacticalbread 路 2014-11-04 20:20 Mibbit is terrible, I think we can all agree on that. 8) But if OP is hosting an IRC server, they can probably host the webclient as well. Would add a sense of uniformity. They could have irc.blah.net and something chat.blah.net on whatever. But for someone who just wants a webclient for their channel on an existing IRC server, then not hosting in is definitely preferable. The fact that you get than choice with KiwiIRC definitely makes it the best choice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CakeX 路 2014-11-12 05:03 For the webchat part, I'd recommend shout-irc.com
