Did I get banned from a server? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Lint6 · 2014-08-02 19:36 Using MIRC, I was on a server today which will remain nameless. I got DC'd and autoreconnected. After it reconnected, nothing I typed in did anything. /list didn't bring up the channel list, /join #help didn't commect me to their help channel, /nick doesn't even show that I change my name. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MillenniumFalc0n · 2014-08-02 19:39 If you were networked banned you wouldn't be able to connect at all ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Lint6 · 2014-08-02 19:43 Ok, so the fact I see the whole "users online" etc screen is good? When I enter /list something I get "listing in progress" but nothing ever appears on the screen. Having tried Mbitt and Kiwi I get the same results. I did email their admins, just haven't gotten a response ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Karunamon · 2014-08-02 20:43 That sounds like a network connectivity issue of some kind. Every ban that can be laid on a user will tell you upon connect. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cecilmx6 · 2014-08-03 05:17 Try reconnecting from a different connection. Does sound like a network issue to me as well. Read the motd could require you to register. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- faghat · 2014-08-03 06:30 You could be shunned. A SHUN is more or less the equivalent to a reddit shadowban. It's not universal but it is on a lot of (large) networks. A shun is more of a 'fuck you' than something like a Z-line, and is usually applied when a K/Z-line fails (evading the ban from a different connection, for example), so I don't think there's a large possibility this will apply. That said, it's still a potential reason. A shunned user is typically set +Dg (deaf and caller-id, so they cannot receive any incoming channel or private messages). Additionally, all commands sent by the user are effectively mulled by the server (so any command - NICK, PRIVMSG, WHOIS, LIST etc don't work). In essence, a shunned user cannot sent or received any messages. Shuns are typically applied to a nick, but can be set on hosts, too. I feel this is a huge long shot, and your problem is likely due to some connectivity problem, but the fact that you experience the issue on mIRC, mibbit and KiwiIRC kind of rule that out (in my mind, anyway). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- boo_ood · 2014-08-03 06:43 Technically incorrect, a lot of IRCds have "shun", which simply ignores user commands if the client matches the mask. Almost nobody actually uses this though, it's pretty stupid, easier just to hand out a *line ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Lint6 · 2014-08-03 07:23 Yea thanks guys, I don't know what happened but a few hours later it was cleared up. Seems like it was just a connection issue It would show the MOTD, but if I entered /motd, it wouldn't do anything. I had even tried downloading mIRC on my laptop and connecting to the wifi (my desktop is wired in) and it still didn't work. So yea it was a network issue it seems. Thanks!
