I'm dumb. How do I join a room after I've registered? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- t0pgearl4mbo · 2014-07-07 21:02 Today I registered a nickname with freenode. In the freenode FAQ it says the best way to connect is using SASL if your client accepts it, which mine does. I seem to be able to connect to freenode using SASL (SASL authentication successful message). But when I try to join a room with the /join command I get the message "you have not registered." What am I doing wrong here? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- justcs · 2014-07-07 21:19 Try authenticating with nickserv manually. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AmphetaminePowered · 2014-07-07 21:27 What client are you using and have you just setup the client as well? It sounds as if your client is not sending a NICK command upon establishing a connection with the IRC server. Make sure you have a default nickname set before connecting or try sending NICK YOURNICKNAME to the server and trying to join the channel again. The "you are not registered" error has nothing to do with services (NickServ) and does not relate to NickServ authentication, it is an IRC protocol error message that usually stems from sending commands to the server before declaring your handle via NICK and USER. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- t0pgearl4mbo · 2014-07-07 21:49 I try authenticating with the command /msg NickServ IDENTIFY username password and get the same error. I can also join the room anonymously and use the command "/msg NickServ IDENTIFY username password" at which point it tells me I've joined as my proper username, but my proper username doesn't appear. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- justcs · 2014-07-07 21:54 you don't need username; set your username in your client and just identify password ---------------------------------------------------------------------- t0pgearl4mbo · 2014-07-07 22:06 Nevermind I'm dumb. I was already signed in on my work PC which is why it wouldn't allow me to log in again. Thanks for your help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-07-09 19:18 Enter the following command /msg nickserv identify password
