Can't connect to .onion IRC's reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mtutnid · 2014-06-26 12:09 Well it's what the title states. I'm using IceChat. The request simply times out. How do I set IceChat to run through Tor? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-06-26 12:39 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mtutnid · 2014-06-27 11:40 Thanks but I still can't connect. Connection is closed. Any help? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- XavierNite · 2014-06-28 04:45 Is the client using the proxy's DNS? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mtutnid · 2014-06-30 09:37 I thought it was. Ooops. It can't connect to any proxy. -.- http://www.socks-proxy.net/ a connection with the server could not be established ---------------------------------------------------------------------- XavierNite · 2014-07-01 06:15 If you are on linux, you could torify the irc client process which will route all of your dns through tor for handling .onion's and ofcourse helping avoid dns leaks :P. Of course, this would route every connection through tor as well, and I'm not quite sure that is what you are looking to do. I tend to do this with my irssi connections tho. (eg. 'torify irssi -c blahblahblah.onion') ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mtutnid · 2014-07-01 21:57 And if i don't use linux? I was thinking of switching, but Microsoft (fck microsoft) makes you uninstall windows first. So I haven't machoed up yet. But I think I'll switch to some kind of Linux distribution this week. Since Windows8 basically took away availability, which was the only reason I used their product. (Bought this new PC and can't even get a C compiler easily) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- XavierNite · 2014-07-03 16:58 Then you could try a client which will properly utilize DNS through your tor proxy. I think hexchat should be just fine for that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mtutnid · 2014-07-04 17:09 I still get connection refused -.- I think it is my ISPs fault. I try to connect without the proxy and I get No Route to Host even if I'm connected to the internet it's just getting sillier. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- XavierNite · 2014-07-08 20:40 connection refused means you are getting a good connection to the server, but the port is not open on the server's end. This may mean that you need a different port to connect. In some cases you require an ssl connection to use tor hidden services (for added security). Try connecting with ssl on port 6697 and see if that makes any difference. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- XavierNite · 2014-07-08 20:41 Also, if it's not too much to ask what IS the .onion address which you are trying to connect to? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mtutnid · 2014-07-10 19:31 37lnq2veifl4kar7.onion renko743grixe7ob.onion jkpos24pl2r3urlw.onion 4eiruntyxxbgfv7o.onion all on port 6667. btw i can't connect to any irc. just checked. The error message i get now is no route to host. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- XavierNite · 2014-07-21 21:14 to be fair, not a single one of those addresses are working for me either. However doodnmorniitjq5b.onion works for me with SASL authentication. Using 'torify irssi -c address.onion' on linux, seems to work with other tor addresses. It might be that their tor entry services are not setup properly or you are trying the wrong port to access the service. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mtutnid · 2014-07-22 07:58 I'll just switch to Linux.
