Every IRC Client Needs This Join/Part Feature reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ThatDev · 2014-06-25 01:33 Lingo is MacOS only, but I haven't seen this feature built into any other client. When you're on a channel like freenode's ##javascript there's at least one join or part per actual message (sometimes 100 or 200 join/parts between messages). Should I turn off join/part messages to save my eyes? No! Should I keep them on because I care about 1% of them: the ones from active users? No! I should only see the ones from active users, and since today's update I don't have to worry about it :-) I hope other clients start doing this, or someone can fill me in on which ones do for when I'm on Linux. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TempSpastic · 2014-06-25 02:27 This is the first time I'm hearing about this client; how does it compare to the likes of Linkinus, Limechat, Textual, and Colloquy? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ThatDev · 2014-06-25 02:37 It's overall the best IRC client I've used. I haven't tried to do scripting with it, so I'm not sure how well that works... but I also haven't really felt the need. It's free, and looks very much like textual. I didn't like Colloquy, and I haven't tried the others you mentioned. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- goggimoggi · 2014-06-25 02:47 Oooh, I haven't heard of Lingo. I currently use Limechat because I like the simplicity and flexible styling/scripting options. I'll have to check this one out and see how it compares. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cypher5001 · 2014-06-25 03:54 Linux clients (like irssi and weechat) have been doing this for ages.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing · 2014-06-25 04:38 Here is a script for HexChat for similar behavior: [smartparts.py](htt ps://github.com/TingPing/plugins/blob/master/HexChat/smartparts.py) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing · 2014-06-25 04:51 It seems like a very unfinished clone of Textual and it's not open source afaict. I'd almost question if they 'borrowed' some code. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rgzzo · 2014-06-25 08:14 I don't know about other clients, but in [*irssi*](http://irssi.org/) (not GUI) you can just ignore these messages. Proper "friends" scripts should work. /ignore -network freenode ##javascript JOINS PARTS QUITS NICKS Also: /ignore JOINS PARTS QUITS /ignore -regexp -pattern "is (away|gone|back)" * ACTIONS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- andersbergh · 2014-06-25 12:34 this client looks a lot like Textual... is it based on it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-06-25 13:51 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RonDiaz · 2014-06-26 01:15 The similarities to Textual are striking ---------------------------------------------------------------------- damiankw · 2014-06-26 09:32 I think that feature would annoy me more than anything, I like seeing people join/part/quit, it brings IRC to life! :P ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-06-29 23:26 [deleted]
