Simple bot reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rkos · 2014-06-14 12:03 Hello, I'm trying to make a simple IRC bot. I've been playing around with Pircbot a bit, but I can't figure it out, do you guys have any suggestions? The features I'm trying to implement: -take a line from a user that the bot then messages to the channel every hour or so -let people join in with a command so that the bot remembers that they are included -let the joined people give a command that implies they're ready and when all joined users are ready it initiates a countdown messaging the channel "5" "4" "3" "2" "1" "Go" in separate lines. -have the ability to set a limit on how many people need to be joined before it allows a countdown to happen So is Pircbot a good solution for this or would you suggest something else? Any advice is appreciated! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wub_wub · 2014-06-14 22:09 Well, your best shot is paying someone to do this if you can't figure it out yourself, but if you have free time you can easily make this. The message every hour will probably work by instantiating a new thread that will run in background and post message every hour in channel. The rest of the code is pretty simple, just put usernames that want to join in a list and check its length before running countdown, when user quits/parts if he's in a list of joined users remove him. Limit is also just a matter of storing value in a variable and/or a file and then referencing it and checking number of users to the value before starting countdown. Pretty much any IRC framework in any language will do, so pircbot is a good solution for this - I used it once to make an IRC bot and it was pretty easy to work with.
