New to IRC, can't join reddit's channel

I guess I'm only semi-new to IRC, but I'm new to the XChat software
running on Xubuntu. I find #Reddit on the FreeNode network, but when I
type it in to join, nothing happens and I have no idea why. Joining
other channels seems to work fine. Any ideas on how to get it to work?

Yep. #reddit is currently +r.

There should have been an error message sent to your status
window/tab.

First of all upgrade to HexChat. Xchat is outdated and has a bunch of
security bugs which are fixed in HexChat.

Second of all, you can use the #reddit channel on snoonet.
