Any IRC clients similar to Opera's old native one? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kizzycocoa · 2014-04-27 00:00 I recently dumped Opera due to it's direction, and my having to use their old browser for a few years due to this direction. I've switched to Firefox, but their chatzilla addon simply doesn't cut it for me. I'm looking for a free multi-user simple IRC client, which remembers channels for each user, much like how Opera's has done it. I don't suppose anyone here can help me? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mjh215 · 2014-04-27 02:45 I'm not sure if it remembers channels/users but I've been working on switching to HexChat, I liked the feel of it for some similarities in formating to Opera... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-04-27 06:29 What operating system are you using? I'm assuming Windows. Have you tried [Hexchat](http://hexchat.github.io/)? what about [mIRC](http://www.mirc.com/)? Both expandable in the fact that Hexchat supports Python\Perl, and mIRC supports its own scriptable language. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- loozerr · 2014-04-27 14:24 Pidgin's irc function is quite similar, but I think Hexchat would be a better choice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kizzycocoa · 2014-04-27 16:55 Thanks everyone! Hexchat seems to be going very well! I only have 2 questions about it. 1) how can I have multiple users on one network? 2)is there a way to save a list of rooms without auto-connecting to them? thanks again!! =) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kizzycocoa · 2014-04-27 18:49 Ok, I found out how to do multiple network users! the only issue I have is persistance of listing channels which I do not want to auto- join. is there any way to save these channels in hexchat? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aftli · 2014-04-27 18:51 I just learned of this HexChat. From their homepage: > IRC client based on XChat, but unlike XChat it’s completely free for both Windows and Unix-like systems. Am I missing something? I thought XChat was free, and it's open source. I don't see any way to buy it from their site. EDIT: Nevermind, [figured it out](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XChat#License_change). I wasn't aware of that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aperson · 2014-04-27 23:27 xchat is also effectively dead. No recent development at all. Hexchat is actively developed (heck, I donated to get a feature into the program). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing · 2014-04-28 17:59 We already talked in [#hexchat](irc://chat.freenode.net/hexchat) about this but for anybody else curious here is a script for saving bookmarks: [bookmarks.py](https://github.com/TingPing/plugins/blob/mas ter/HexChat/bookmarks.py)
